I have to get braces for a gap and overbite and the orthodontist said id have to have it for 2 years.
Can i have them for 18 months if all goes well or is it a definate 24 month thing ?
Also how will this effect my singing, talking, looks & kissing ?

Honestly, the time can differ between orthodontists. I went to one that said 8-10 months, and another that said 12 months. Orthodontists are the ones in control, really, over how fast you can complete your treatment. Of course, they follow standards and don't want to put too much strain on your adjusting teeth, but watch out for the orthos that keep them on for longer than is necessary just because the BILL will be higher. The longer they're on, the more time they spend on you, the more money you or the insurance money has to pay. In the long run it's YOUR mouth and if you feel that your teeth are straight enough or whatever for your taste, they can remove them and give you a retainer at 18 months (that's what I did).

2 years was a rough estimate. if your teeth move quickly, the time can be reduced. my orthodontist said 18 months, ive had them on for about 5 months and hes already talking about getting them off within5- months. 6-8 months off!
and braces dont effect anything except your teeth, so dont worry

Follow the rules that your Orthodontist gives you and you might get out of them earlier. I was told 2 to 3 years and I got out of mine in 2 years. A friend of mine was told 2 to 3 years and she got out of hers after 18 months.

they told me that i would have to have them for 2 years also. I had mine removed after a year and a half. just abide by the rules and you should do fine. it affects those abilities very minimally and only for a little while. good luck.
